Matins

The Resurrection of Christ with soldiers is the motif of the panel of Matins, the first hour of the Divine Office. This, the longest hour of the monastic breviary is usually sung in the dark hours of the morning when the monks rise from their beds to pray. Beneath are the three small hours of prime, sext and none represented by monastic activities usually conducted during the times presided over by these hours.
